So following the guidelines in class last week... I'm going to summarize where I'm at with my projects.
1 - Music. I looked into guitar lessons and unfortunately I just cannot afford them. I could justify the money if I could go regularly once a week... but my travel schedule with reffing does not allow this right now. With that in mind, I am going to take guitar lessons next summer... because I'll have enough time to dedicate myself completely.
2 - Chess. This is more fun than I thought it would be. I've been reading pawn structures on www.chess.com tutorial guides and I'm starting to grasp this concept. This website has been absolutely perfect as it allows me to challenge a computer or a real person on the internet whenever it is convenient for me!
Right now I'm finding the mental aspect of the game to be difficult. You really need to be aware of your surroundings at all times and I feel like I'm getting better at this... unfortunately I'm not very good at seeing 3 or 4 moves ahead, at least not yet.
I think that Chess is an interdisciplinary game all in itself. There are so many variables that at times it can be a little overwhelming... all the different pieces move differently and you need to be aware of the current and future positions of you and your opponent! With more practice (and reading) I should get better. There is a lot out there to learn and there is a lot of room for improvement.
Moving forward, besides practicing and reading, I really want to start playing games with my friends. My original motivation for doing this was to be more social (I study waaaaaay too much)... I figured I could play this over a few beers with my buddies and call it a good time.
3 - Soccer Juggling. Right now, I feel like it's not getting much better. Although I'm juggling more with my hip flexors now, I can't seem to get my foot all the way around the ball without kicking it away. I have yet to develop control with this trick. Essentially I need to keep practicing... which I do for 30 minutes before every hockey game.
